Invitation
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to invite you to join us in a new venture, Europe AF.
Atrial fibrillation is a growing health problem for the developed world and its ageing population. It is a major cause of mortality, stroke, heart failure, reduction of quality of life and is an enormous drain on health care resources. Despite its importance through its prevalence, its management is not straightforward. Firstly, it may be symptomatic or asymptomatic with the lack of symptoms not affecting its clinical risk although diagnosis and assessment of therapeutic effects are made more difficult in the absence of symptoms. Furthermore, it is a heterogeneous condition with multiple possible therapeutic strategies that may be applied either alone or as hybrids. These include heart rate control, anticoagulation, prophylactic antiarrhythmic drug therapy, pacing, ablation and surgery. It can be challenging to select the most appropriate of all of these therapies for each individual patient especially as options such as catheter ablation and surgery are practiced differently for different forms of AF and from one centre to the next.
Europe AF is a new Scientific Meeting intended to provide the latest information on our understanding of the mechanisms and clinical manifestations of Atrial Fibrillation and place the evolving treatment options in context. To achieve this, a faculty that includes many of the world’s leading investigators in the field has been invited. They will present the latest data on their chosen topics covering aspects of AF mechanisms and all the different therapeutic options. New developments will be demonstrated in practically orientated sessions with the emphasis on videos of procedures using the latest technologies and techniques. Finally, there will be an opportunity to hear from AF patients themselves about their experience and their hopes and to receive advice they have for those of us treating them. The meeting is intended for everyone from cardiology trainees, the general physician and cardiologist to the specialist cardiac electrophysiologist.
We look forward to welcoming you to London in June 2008!
With Best Wishes,
